Vinyasa yoga is a sequence where the asanas (postures) are linked together in a series of movements that are synchronized with the breath. Much emphasis is placed on the breath and the transition in and out of the asanas. The continual movements, from one pose to another, gives you an added cardiovascular benefit, which more traditional forms of yoga do not have. The routine practice of vinyasa yoga can increase muscle strength, endurance and flexibility, and reduce levels of stress.

Vinyasa yoga offers much diversity. The pace can vary and there is no one particular sequence that instructors must follow. This flexibility allows the teacher to tailor the sequences to their own philosophy. So, if one class doesn't work for you, try another, until you find one that you are comfortable with.

Class begins with a few minutes of centering, including intention setting and breath awareness. We then move into some gentle warm ups for the first 10-15 minutes which may include some neck stretching, cat cows, joint freeing etc. We then move into some standing flows including sun breathing and sun salutations, and then move into some balancing postures. We move back down to the floor for some cool down stretches and then the last ten minutes or so consist of a deep relaxation with guided meditation.

Yinyasa is a unique practice that brings the balance of Yin yoga for the first half of the class with a Vinyasa style flow for the second half of the class. The Yin portion will be a quiet and meditative style practice in which all poses are done seated on the floor. Yin poses are designed to relax all muscles and allow deep connective and fascial tissues as well as joints and ligaments to be gently stretched. The Vinyasa portion will allow us to integrate the benefits of Yin into a gentle flow practice based on steadiness and alignment. All levels are welcome!
